For our wedding guests, we provided a CD of songs selected by both Robbyn and myself that reflect special moments in our life, and our love for each other.
The first eleven tracks of the CD are love songs, followed by six songs chosen for their importance in our lives.

About the songs
Song: Storybook Love
Artist: Willy deVille with Mark Knopfler
Album: The Princess Bride Soundtrack
Selected by: Robbyn and Matthew
Why: Who doesn't love The Princess Bride? One of the best movies to come out of the 80s, it was a seminal moment for most people in our generation. While this song is never heard during the movie itself (it plays during the credits) we felt it was a perfect wedding song. And, contrary to the advice of our dance teacher, it wasn't that hard to dance to at all!
Song: Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World
Artist: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
Album: Ka 'Ano'i
Selected by: Robbyn and Matthew
Why: I (Matthew) first heard this song as the intro to the eToys.com ads (the first 30 seconds or so of the song) back in the dot-com days. It was such an etheral sound that I just had to figure out what it was. I spent some time looking around for it, and finally our good friends over a Wall's Resource Guide was able to clue me into the singer. Since that time, I've become a big big fan of Iz, and still love this song.
Song: Angel

Bubbles of love...
Song: Burbujas de Amor
Artist: Juan Luis Guerra

Song: I Try

Be with me tonight...
Song: What A Good Boy
Artist: Barenaked Ladies
Album: Rock Spectacle
Selected by: Matthew
Why: It's ironic that I'd select a Barenaked Ladies song, considering Robbyn is the true fan; but I have always loved this song. The imagery of the chorus (see below) has always appealed to me. I've always felt that this was a song about the complication, pain, and need that love can bring us. Perhaps it's the Irish in me, but I've always been drawn to songs that explore the sadder (Robbyn would say maudlin) side of love.
This name is the hairshirt I wear
and this hairshirt is woven from your brown hair.
This song is the cross that I bear,
bear it with me, bear with me, bear with me, be with me tonight,
I know that it isn't right, but be with me tonight.
Song: I'll Be
Artist: Edwin McCain
Album: Misguided Roses
Selected by: Robbyn
Song: Power of Two
Artist: Indigo Girls
Album: Swamp Ophelia
Selected by: Robbyn
Song: Teach Your Children
Artist: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Album: Déjà Vu
Selected by: Robbyn
Lie down beneath this bowl of stars...
Song: Mrs. Potter's Lullaby
Artist: Counting Crows
Album: This Desert Life
Selected by: Matthew
Why: This song has always reminded me of that part of Ohio where I grew up. I can remember going back to my parent's house in Ostrander, driving up their driveway late at night, in the heart of winter, standing outside by my car, and looking up at the clouds of stars that lay above me. It was breathtaking. You really could "lie down beneath this bowl of stars."
They hang like grapes on vines that shine...
Song: California Stars
Artist: Billy Bragg + Wilco
Album: Mermaid Avenue
Selected by: Matthew
Why: I lived in Northern California for two years. The first year, I lived in Silicon Valley, and rapidly tired of the pace of life, the congestion, and frankly the high rent. In August 2001, I moved to Gilroy and loved it. It was far enough from the cities to have a more mid-western pace of life, and was in a goregous part of the country. Many nights, just to do something, I'd take a drive out in the country. My favorite route went something like this; head east on Santa Teresa, until you reach Day Road. Turn left onto Day, take Day until it ends at Watsonville. Turn left onto Watsonville, and take that till it ends at CA-152. Take CA-152 back into Gilroy. It wasn't too long (about 15 miles), and at night, was just goregous. The stars litteraly looked like they hung on thick vines that kissed the hilly ground...I loved my California Stars.
Song: Only the Good Die Young
Artist: Billy Joel
Album: Stranger
Selected by: Robbyn
Song: Get You In
Artist: Better Than Ezra
Album: Closer
Selected by: Matthew
Why: We went back and forth on this song. Robbyn believes it's more of a break-up song, than a wedding song, but Matthew feels that it's a song that speaks to the bittersweet nature of love and life. The plaintive nature of the singer as he cries out "What I wouldn't do for you...what I wouldn't do for you..." is such an overpowering emotional release that how could it not go on a wedding CD?
Song: Sweet Baby James
Artist: James Taylor
Album: Sweet Baby James
Selected by: Robbyn
